A War Veteran in Las Vegas

This is heartbreaking. Here is a man who took up arms to fight for his country. To put himself in harms way in service to his fellow citizens. He lost lower right leg for it. His service cost him dearly. More than he has ever been repaid. And yet, for all he lost in his service, he now sits begging on a walkway in Las Vegas. How humiliating. Not just for him, but more so for the system that has let him down. And even more so for humanity in general. In a place like Vegas, money is frittered away by millions of people every year on gambling, flesh, booze and other thrills. And here is a man who lost his leg fighting for people’s right to do that, begging on the streets right outside the places where it is all happening. I gave in $10 for the privilege to take a photo of him a braver man than me. I couldn’t fight in a war. And I couldn’t beg on the street. Imagine if everyone who visited Vegas in 1 year gave him a $1?

This photo, available in full resolution (just click on it), is available for re-use at no cost. Only credit my site for it is all I ask.
