My new year challenge. #MyDailyPhoto is one photograph a day, taken without an agenda. There are no themes, no rules, and no expectation that the image needs to perform or impress. It exists simply as a place to put one photograph each day — noticed, captured, and then left alone. On January 1, 2026, I posted a photograph of a payphone. Not because it was dramatic or beautiful, but because it was there — still standing, still visible, still ignored. That image marks the beginning of Daily Photo Insight, a simple photography concept built around one idea: one photograph a day, taken seriously.
No themes.
No challenges.
No expectation of improvement or output.
Just a photograph.
What Daily Photo Insight is
#MyDailyPhoto is a daily photography series published on AdamInsights. Each post contains a single photograph taken that day. Sometimes there’s a short reflection. Sometimes there isn’t. The photograph is the point.
The rules are minimal by design:
- One photo per day
- No obligation to explain it
- No requirement for it to be “good”
Over time, the series becomes an archive — not of events, but of attention. A visual record of what was noticed on a particular day, without hindsight or curation.
Why it exists
Photography has become increasingly performative. Images are shared to be evaluated, optimised, or compared. Daily Photo Insight deliberately avoids that framing.
This isn’t a project about growth, reach, or consistency. It’s about maintaining a relationship with photography that doesn’t rely on feedback loops or validation.
A daily photograph forces a decision: What was worth noticing today?
Sometimes the answer is obvious. Sometimes it isn’t. That friction is the work.
Why start with older technology
The first image — a payphone — sets the tone.
Older technology is useful to photograph precisely because it has fallen out of relevance. When something is no longer efficient or desirable, it becomes visible again. Scratches, wear, signage, and design choices that once blended into daily life now stand on their own.
In 2026, a payphone isn’t nostalgic — it’s unresolved. It exists in public space without purpose, and that makes it interesting. Daily Photo Insight is interested in those moments.
An open participation model
This isn’t positioned as a closed series.
Anyone can take part by adopting the same idea: one photograph per day, shared or unpublished. If you do share it, you’re encouraged to call it your daily photo and use the hashtag #MyDailyPhoto.
There’s no requirement to match a style, subject, or pace. Missing days doesn’t break the concept. Overthinking does.
What this is not
Daily Photo Insight is not a challenge.
It’s not a productivity tool.
It’s not content marketing disguised as mindfulness.
It’s a container — a place to put a photograph each day and move on.
Some days the image will matter. Some days it won’t. Both are allowed.
That’s the concept.
