If you’re looking for an unforgettable creative experience, SJC Art Studios in Clarence Gardens, Adelaide, is a must-visit. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a corporate painting workshop with 11 fantastic colleagues, and it turned out to be one of the most fun and inspiring team-building activities I’ve ever experienced. Very different to what I’ve been used to for team building and staff entertainment, but it was really cool.
The workshop was led by Sarah Joy, the incredibly talented owner of SJC Art Studios. Not only is Sarah a gifted artist, but she’s also an exceptional teacher. Her ability to break down complex painting techniques into simple, easy-to-follow steps left everyone in awe. Even those of us who doubted our artistic abilities walked away with something we were genuinely proud to call our own.
Is purple my colour?
The studio itself is a bright, welcoming space, fully equipped with everything you could ever need to create your masterpiece. From high-quality paints and brushes to endless accessories and a sturdy canvas for each participant, Sarah ensures that every detail is covered. This all-inclusive approach makes the workshops fantastic value for money.
I’ll admit it. We were meant to be painting flowers, but I got it in my head to paint a Leica M. Course I had to. I actually got more out of watching my colleagues create their pieces.
What stood out the most was the positive atmosphere Sarah cultivated. She encouraged creativity and made sure everyone felt supported, whether they were trying out new techniques or putting the finishing touches on their artwork. The group dynamic was incredible—seeing my colleagues’ unique creations come to life was inspiring, and it reminded me how rewarding it can be to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
We quickly learned foundational skills to paint a variety of effects, selected our own pictures to recreate, and watched as our canvases transformed into something truly magical. Sarah’s approach to teaching not only made it easy to learn but also instilled a sense of confidence and pride in our work.
The space is also a store and gallery. Some great art on display and for sale, as well as lots of hand made crafts some from other students of Sarahs. Its nice.
SJC Art Studios isn’t just about painting; it’s about bringing people together, sparking creativity, and providing a safe, inclusive space to explore your artistic side. Whether you’re looking for a fun group activity, a solo creative outlet, or a family-friendly workshop, this place has it all.
Thank you, Sarah, for an unforgettable day of painting, learning, and laughter. Your passion for art and teaching shines through in every detail, and I wish you continued success. For anyone in Adelaide—kids, adults, beginners, or seasoned artists—don’t miss the chance to experience the magic of SJC Art Studios.
