If you’re into photography—whether you’re a beginner picking up your first camera, a passionate weekend shooter, or a seasoned pro—you need to be at the Adelaide Camera Expo. If you’re hoping to grab serious gear bargains, meet the most passionate experts, and get hands-on with the latest products, this is the event to mark on your calendar.
Here’s the reality: if you miss it, you’re missing out.
The Adelaide Camera Expo, presented by PhotoCo and held at the Adelaide Central Market, is fast becoming the most important photography event in Australia. It’s where you’ll find innovation, inspiration, and genuine support from the photographic community—and most importantly, it represents the future of how photography should be experienced.
A True Photography Experience—Not Just a Trade Show
Unlike corporate expos that feel sterile and commercial, the Adelaide Camera Expo is a full-bodied experience. It’s interactive, hands-on, and set in the heart of Adelaide’s vibrant Central Market, one of the city’s most iconic cultural spaces.
It’s a photography event where traders, educators, photographers, artists, and the public all come together. Not only do you get to see and touch the latest gear from Leica, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji, and more, you can also hear from industry icons, explore emerging technologies like Hobolite LED lights, and participate in over 21 workshops and talks designed to teach, inspire, and connect.

And for just $5 per ticket, with all proceeds going to the Adelaide Day Centre for the Homeless, it’s possibly the best value event in the country.
My Review from 2024: “The Best Camera Expo in Australia”
Let me quote myself from last year:
“The Adelaide Camera Expo has cemented its status in my head as the best camera expo in Australia, bringing together photography enthusiasts, professionals, and industry leaders for a spectacular showcase of cutting-edge gear, insightful talks, and hands-on workshops.”
And I stand by it.
The 2024 event brought unforgettable moments: I was inspired by Leica Ambassador Kristian Dowling’s keynote, found a new favourite in the Hobolite LED lights, and spent time comparing the latest releases from every major brand in one place. I even left with a new Leica SF40 flash—a small but mighty tool that’s become a staple in my kit.
Where else can you do all that under one roof, while chatting with knowledgeable, passionate people who care about photography as much as you do?

Local Businesses Like PhotoCo Deserve Your Support
At the heart of this expo is PhotoCo, South Australia’s oldest and most respected camera store. They’ve been in business since 1967, run today by third-generation owners Luke and Paul Bulley.
And let’s be clear: they are the reason this expo exists.
PhotoCo is more than a retailer. It’s a place of learning, discovery, and support. They stock everything from Leica to Canon, Fuji to Panasonic, digital to film, and everything in between. Their second-hand range is trustworthy, their pricing is among the best in Australia, and their ability to source rare gear is unmatched.
The Bulley family are pillars of the South Australian photographic community, and their commitment to photography goes well beyond selling cameras. They run events, support exhibitions, offer repairs and training, and are the first place many photographers go when they need honest advice.
When you support PhotoCo, you’re supporting:
- Local jobs
- Personalised, expert service
- Honest pricing without online trickery
- A business that gives back to the community
We often complain about the lack of real service these days—well, PhotoCo proves it still exists.

The Future of Photography Belongs to Smaller Retailers
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: big online retailers are not the future of photography.
Sure, you might find a lens $20 cheaper online, but what you lose is everything else: the advice, the after-sales support, the ability to try before you buy, the option to trade in, and most importantly—the sense of community.
There is an important reason I only buy my gear from PhotoCo
Retailers like PhotoCo are the bridge between inspiration and action. They make photography accessible, by:
- Running low-cost educational workshops
- Offering great second-hand options for people on a budget
- Making film, print, and vintage gear available and relevant again
- Being approachable and available for questions and guidance
Without stores like this, photography becomes transactional, not transformational.
The Adelaide Central Market: A Venue That Embodies Passion
The Adelaide Central Market is the soul of the city. With over 70 traders under one roof, it represents everything that’s right with local business: passion, quality, diversity, and heart.
Hosting the expo here means the event is more than gear on tables. It’s an atmosphere. You can grab a fresh juice and explore vintage film cameras. Attend a talk by a legendary photographer, then chat with a vendor over a plate of dumplings. The environment is alive and energising—just like photography should be.
The market also attracts thousands of people weekly. It’s central, accessible, and family-friendly. You don’t have to be a hardcore photographer to enjoy this event—just someone who loves creativity and community.
