Gran

This photo means a lot to me. It is a portrait. Is it a scene. I’m not sure.

I took this in February 2009 on the Canon 50mm F1.8 Prime Lens. The Canon 50mm 1.8 is one of the best lenses ever made as it offers a significant creative outlet at a very affordable price. The body I used was a Canon EOS 400d.

To me, this photo captures the emotion of the time. We’d lost Grandad in November 2008, and Gran was in shock. She’d sit in her living room staring out.

The old lady is in a living room that doesn’t seem as bright and warm, it is high up and the light, the world seems far away. She stares at it but makes no effort to get to it for a while. This scene captures living. Everything about her daily life is here in her living room.
