SanDisk Quietly Launches 2TB Extreme Pro UHS-I SD Cards

SanDisk has quietly introduced a game-changer in storage solutions: the 2TB Extreme Pro UHS-I SD card. This impressive addition to the Extreme Pro lineup offers read speeds of up to 250MB/sec and write speeds of 150MB/sec, ideal for photographers and videographers who need dependable, high-capacity storage.

While these speeds push the UHS-I standard to its limits, you’ll need a proprietary SanDisk card reader or compatible options like the ProGrade PGM0.5 to achieve maximum performance. For in-camera use, the V30 rating guarantees sustained write speeds of 30MB/sec, making it perfect for high-definition video recording.

This marks a significant step up from SanDisk’s groundbreaking 1TB SD card, released in 2019. With footage sizes growing exponentially, the 2TB option provides the capacity needed for extended shoots, though offloading a full card at 250MB/sec will still take about 2 hours.

And for the fast nuts….SanDisk Introduces UHS-II V90 Cards with 300MB/sec Speeds

In addition to the 2TB UHS-I card, SanDisk has unveiled its fastest-ever UHS-II SD cards in the Extreme Pro V90 lineup. These cards boast 300MB/sec write speeds and are available in capacities ranging from 64GB to 512GB. The cards also offer read speeds of up to 300MB/sec, making them ideal for 8K video recording or rapid-fire shooting with ultra-high-resolution cameras.

This is a notable improvement from the 260MB/sec write speeds of the previous generation. While the V90 rating ensures sustained writes of at least 90MB/sec, the 300MB/sec peak speeds make these cards invaluable for professionals managing large files in fast-paced workflows.

UHS-II: Pushing the Limits

SanDisk’s UHS-II V90 cards are nearly maxing out the theoretical limit of 312MB/sec for the standard. As card capacities continue to grow, it’s only a matter of time before we see breakthroughs beyond this limit. Even with 300MB/sec transfer speeds, offloading a fully loaded 512GB card will take nearly 30 minutes.

Should You Upgrade?

While these new offerings push storage and speed boundaries, there’s no immediate rush to upgrade unless your current workflow demands it. However, when it’s time to expand your collection, SanDisk’s latest options provide robust solutions tailored for modern storage needs.

Whether you need the massive capacity of the 2TB UHS-I card or the blazing speed of the UHS-II V90 lineup, SanDisk has you covered.
